On Monday, October 21, 2024, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) held an online regional consultative meeting to discuss the implementation of UNESCO's 2019 recommendation on open educational resources (OER), where best practices and recommendations for enhancing the use of these resources were exchanged.
Dr. Mahmoud Hawamdeh, the Director of the Center for Continuing Education and Community Service at QOU, highlighted the University's initiative to promote OER in the Arab region. He emphasized that adopting OER has been one of the university's top priorities, especially in the context of the ongoing digital transformation and the university's commitment to achieving equitable access to education and enhancing learning opportunities. Hawamdeh also talked about the goals of the initiative which include the level of awareness. Hawamdeh also highlighted developing educational materials, and building a community of practitioners and experts in open educational resources in Palestine and Jordan. He also talked about the "Smart" course that was developed electronically, aimed at teaching essential skills related to OER.
The meeting also addressed the importance of developing educational policies and enhancing cooperation among Arab countries to achieve inclusive and quality education, as participants aim to prepare a unified representation for the third global conference on open educational resources scheduled to be held in Dubai in November 2024.
