A research team from Al-Quds Open University's Faculty of Agriculture, managed  to document the existence of the Ornithogalum fuscescens plant in  in Ramallah and Al-Bireh, and Jenin governorates.

It is noteworthy that Ornithogalum fuscescens, is documented in The IUCN Red List as endangered plant, and it only grows in the Levant, which is the home of this species. In recent years, it has become extremely difficult to find it in its home country.

This research is one of the activities of the project:

.In-Situ conservation to the endangered plant (Ornithogalum fuscescens) in the Palestinian Central Mountains

The project is funded by The Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund in the United Arab Emirates, and implemented by Al-Quds Open University in Palestine and aims to conduct field surveys in various governorates to document the spread and existence of the plant. The project also includes many activities aimed at preserving this type of plant (Ex-Situ & In-Situ conservation) as well as spreading awareness, especially in the areas where the plant exists with the aim of preserving and protecting it, with a focus on its importance in preserving the environment and the biodiversity and the role it may play in encouraging domestic tourism.

It is worth noting that the research team consisted of the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Khaled Hardan, the Project Coordinator, Dr. Aziz Salama, Eng. Sameh Jarar, from the National Center for Agricultural Research at the Ministry of Agriculture, and Eng. Ahmed Omari, biodiversity expert. the team enlisted the assistance of Dr. Mohammed Gharaibeh from the Jordan University of Science and Technology, and Prof. Dr. Mohammed Salim Ishtia from the Biodiversity and Environment Research Center (BERC), to confirm the existence of the targeted plant species.
