Prof. Samir Al-Najdi, Vice President for Academic Affairs participated in (mLearn 2020), the 19th World Conference on Mobile, Blended and Seamless Learning, which was held on Monday 11/02/2020 hosted by the eLearning Centre at Mansoura University in Cairo, Egypt, in which speakers from twenty countries in the world participated.
Prof. Al-Najdi participated as a keynote speaker with his presentation titled:
“Self-study courses and exams in remote areas enhanced by mobile apps at Al Quds Open University (QOU) in Palestine” in which he talked about the experience of Al-Quds Open University in transitioning fully to online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. This transition includes the use of virtual classes, self-learning courses, Al-Quds educational satellite channel and social media in support of teachers and students. The focus was on the use of mobile phones to communicating knowledge to students, follow up on their educational courses, and solve electronic activities and final exams, besides creating social media groups to provide technical support during the second and summer semesters.
Prof. Al-Najdi emphasized the importance of using the mobile phone for students in the marginalized areas and in the Gaza Strip, and its role in solving the problem of unstable electricity and internet services in these areas. The use of a mobile phone was the best solution in such cases.
Prof. Al-Najdi also talked about e learning in general at the university, the university’s technological structure, the development of its electronic network, and the sources of technological support that the university provides to teachers and students
